Tyrome Smith

Tyrome ‘Ty’ Smith, has over 25 years of consulting with leading executives and their teams by helping them understand human and organizational dynamics. Currently, he is the Director of Strategic Partnership for the Common Mission Project, whose mission is to create an international network of entrepreneurs driven to solve the critical challenges of our time. In that role, he is responsible for creating an ecosystem of public, private, and government partners. Prior to that, he was a senior trusted advisor to executive-level decision-makers in the Department of Defense (DoD) where he supported strategic initiatives focusing on maximizing value across the enterprise. As part of this effort, he developed an innovation education program that included coaching and mentoring product development teams engaged in an internal incubator. He was recently appointed to a 3-year team to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Advisory Board, whose purpose is to provide the NIST Director advice on the activities, plans, and policies of the program.

Known for his love of facilitating learning, Ty has recently been engaged as an adjunct faculty at Bowie State University in the entrepreneurship program, as well as serving as an Entrepreneur in Residence for the University System of Maryland's ICorps program. He has also been known to serve as a lean startup coach for several successful public accelerators out of which several of the companies have been accepted into well-known accelerator programs like TechStars.
